MASTER GARDENER CLASS: The WVU Extension Service will begin an online Master Gardener certification class on Thursday. The course is presented via Zoom every Thursday from 6-9 p.m., for 18 weeks. Certification also includes a WVU volunteer verification process, an open book exam, and the completion of 40 volunteer hours within one year of class. LOG CABIN QUILTER: The Log Quilters Guild will meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Alliance Church located in Gilman, Route 219 North. Anyone interested in textile arts is welcome.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: Church Women United in Elkins will meet for the World Day of Prayer at 1 p.m. Friday. The prayer service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 302 First Street with a business meeting afterwards to discuss the provision of Holy Week lunches (if the Randolph County Christian Churches Coalition holds its worship services at noon). This year’s program is “Building on a solid foundation” and written by the Vanuatu World Day of Prayer Committee. We strongly encourage the wearing of the mask. OUR CITY GROWS IN SPRING: grows in spring 2022: tiptoeing through the tulips. Paintable cut-out wooden tulips will be distributed by Elder Henry G on Saturdays from 2-5 p.m.; the return of finished tulips will take place on March 19 at Henry Gs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; the tulips will be on display by March 26 and the tulip sale will take place on April 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. Tulips will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

RIFLE RALLY: The annual Rifle Rally hosted by the Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation and the Tygart Valley Lions Club returns in person Saturday to the Phil Gainer Community Center. Doors open at 11 a.m. with raffles starting at noon and the grand prize draw at 6 p.m. Admission includes free unlimited food and refreshments, including the famous Lions Club Pork Tenderloin and Beef, as well as access to additional raffles and special designs. during the day. Tickets are available online at www.tygartcommunity.com, from any Tygart Valley Lions Club member or at the Beverly Heritage Center.

BUCKWHEAT AND PANCAKES BREAKFAST AT HOME: Two spring buckwheat and pancake breakfasts are scheduled for March 12 and April 9 from 7 a.m. to noon at the Homestead Community and Event Center in Dailey. The menu includes all-you-can-eat sourdough buckwheat cakes, regular pancakes, sausages, eggs, coffee, juice and milk. The events are organized by Home of the Soul Family Worship in partnership with the Tygart Valley Homestead Association. Dine in or take away.

CELEBRATION: The American Legion Post 29 will host its 103rd Anniversary Dinner on Saturday, March 19, 2022. A social hour will begin at 6 p.m. and the program/dinner will begin at 7 p.m. They will be serving a lasagna dinner. RETIRED SCHOOL STAFF: The March meeting of the Randolph County Retired School Staff Association will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 25 at the Steer Steakhouse. Fundraising tickets for a Bob Huggins basketball to benefit scholarships are available from Donna Auvil. The draw will take place at the April meeting.

FREE PRUNING AND GRAFTING WORKSHOP: will be held Saturday, March 26 at 2 p.m. in the Gov. Kumphouse. The workshop will be led by David Proudfoot and sponsored by the Elkins Tree Board and Elkins Friends of Trees. The Kump House is located at 401 Randolph Ave., Elkins across from Kroger’s. CONCEALED CARRY/BASIC PISTOL COURSE: will be held on Sunday, March 27 at the Coalton VFW, 3436 Coalton-Pumpkintown Road, Coalton.
