The remodeled “Las Salinas” center in Murcia welcomes more than 16,000 visitors each year

After a thorough renovation, the “Las Salinas” visitor center in San Pedro del Pinatar is expected to reopen at the end of the year. The ambitious project is focused on improving accessibility, energy sustainability and the services provided to the approximately 16,000 visitors who use this popular facility each year.

In total, the works have a budget of more than 776,000 euros and are co-financed (80%) by the European Regional Development Fund.

Located next to the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar regional park and next to the Mar Menor protected area, the visitor center offers its guests a unique view of the natural, cultural and social values of the region.

When it reopens, the establishment will have a new, larger car park with a meeting point for school outings and better access for people with reduced mobility.

Among the interior improvements, the project includes the construction of a regional park interpretation room, with audiovisual media, interactive panels and models, as well as the construction of the Mar Menor interpretation room and full access to the lighthouse, which is a breathtaking view of the salt flats and sandbanks.

In addition, the annex building, also under renovation, will house the facilities of the environmental agents of the Mar Menor area and will incorporate new energy efficiency measures.
