A packed house of local residents at Market Common clearly connected with the candidates in attendance debating the key unresolved challenges facing the Town of Myrtle Beach.

Paul Gable moderated the debate excellently.

The five mayoral candidates who have applied for the next elections are:

  • Brenda Bethune (incumbent) Did not show up
  • Tammie Durant
  • Ho gene
  • William D. McClure
  • CD Rozsa

The central and common themes that all the candidates agreed on were the high crime rates inside the city, as well as a runaway budget of $ 200 million that forces the city to operate at its ceiling. debt.

Each candidate had ample time to respond to concerns expressed by local residents.

MyrtleBeachSC News was present throughout the debate and will post a video early in the morning on each candidate’s individual positions. Look for our follow-up articles early tomorrow morning with a video from tonight’s event.

Candidates were direct and articulate when discussing a myriad of issues caused by, what they called, poor current and past leadership.

All the mainstream media were present for the debate.

Mayor Bethune skipped the debate, choosing instead to start his own catered business at Market Common. His event, however, fell flat on local voters.

Slowly, Bethune and Hatley stand alongside the caterers as few takers show up at Bethune’s scheduled meet and greet.
