Lawrence High junior Lucy Hardy scored 3 points in the Lions 76-26 win on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

The Lawrence High girls’ basketball team claimed a 76-26 victory Tuesday night over Lathrop in the 12 Courts of Christmas event at HyVee Arena in Kansas City, Mo.

Five Lions have doubled the scores, with Amaya Marshall and Layla Harjo each scoring 13 points.

“The kids played really well tonight,” said LHS coach Jeff Dickson. “I’m very proud of our defense and our balanced score. ”

LHS led 38-18 at halftime and exploded for 27 points in the third quarter – while keeping Lathrop just four – to put the game out of reach.

Dickson also praised sophomore Emma Roman Nose for her 12 points and solid play on the bench and said sophomore Azura Clark and junior Daphne Bracker Sturm “both had a great time.”

Sophomore Destiny Savannah (12) and rookie Brynae Johnson (10) were the other double-digit LHS players to score.

The Lions are now 4-1 on the season and will be out until the end of the winter break.

“It was a great team victory for the girls and a great way to approach the Christmas holidays,” said Dickson. “We know we still have a lot of really hard work ahead of us, but we’re as close as any group we’ve ever had and I know these ladies are up for any challenge.”
