“He can’t even remember how it happened.”
Manchester United beat Norwich City 1-0 on Saturday night thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty, but it was not a straightforward victory for Ralf Rangnick’s men. Norwich will consider themselves very unlucky not to have pulled something out of the game, when the most pressing issue is Victor Lindelof’s health.
The Swedish defender capsized in the second half, clearly in serious discomfort. After some brief medical attention, he made the decision to leave the field in the interests of his safety.
Speaking after the game, his manager said he had breathing problems for more than 10 minutes.
Ralf Rangnick on Victor Lindelof
He said: âHe can’t even remember how it happened.
âI think he collided with another player and had breathing problems for over 10 minutes. His heart rate was higher than normal and he was a little shocked he didn’t know how to deal with it. We had to replace it.
“After the game we had checkups and doctor’s checks, it looks like everything is fine. We still have to see how he is tomorrow. Hopefully he will be in good shape for the game against Brentford.
Victor Lindelof’s health
Lindelof was replaced by Eric Bailly, who helped United keep a second consecutive clean sheet in the Premier League, with a crucial block towards the end of the game.
If Lindelof isn’t fit enough to play Brentford on Tuesday, Bailly could be in line for a start against the promoted side.
Raphael Varane is also set to get back in shape, as forgotten man Phil Jones found a place on the bench for Saturday’s game against Norwich.
Considering United’s other options in this area, it might be wise to give Lindelof more time to recover from what has happened.
