TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida State Divers Jesco Helling and Samantha Vear were named ACC Divers of the Week on Tuesday, following their performances at the TYR Classic over the weekend.
“It’s very early in the season right now, but these two did some great things last weekend,” said FSU diving head coach John Proctor. âThey both worked hard and they are both improving every day. I’m very proud of them and can’t wait to see how they are progressing this season.
Helling won by 3 meters with just under eighth points with a score of 343.55, setting the competition record.
Although he competed in the 1-meter ‘B’ final and was not allowed to score higher than ninth place, Helling also had the second highest score among the 16 divers in competition with 316.00.
Both scores met the NCAA zone qualifying standard.
Vear finished second over 1 meter with a total of 295.50, which was also lower than the competition’s previous record. His score was an NCAA zone qualification. She was also 10 years olde over 3 meters, scoring 268.80.
This is the second ACC Diver of the Week career honored for Vear and the first for Helling.
Helling and Vear will be back in action Friday at 2 p.m. as the Seminoles host Auburn at the Morcom Aquatics Center. Free entry.
