Launch of an online encyclopedia for the culture and history of Central County
a online encyclopedia covering the culture and history of Center County just went live this month. The site has countless articles covering the history of major organizations in Penn State and Center County, including the Blue Band and the football team.
The site was created by Ford Risley, a professor at Penn State’s Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. He is also an editor on the site and edits articles for a group of 44 contributors.
The encyclopedia covers 17 topics that cover a wide variety of topics, from people and education to military and warfare to art and culture. The information compiled spans the 1600s to the 21st century.
The site is sponsored by the Center County Historical Society, which works in conjunction with local, regional, county and state organizations to preserve the history of the area.
Some sample items include the All-American Rathskeller, Georges atherton, and the State College Tips. They cover all of the unique things that make Center County different from any other county in Pennsylvania.
