The 2022 NBA playoffs were underway this weekend and there are three Canadian starters. Toronto, Ontario small forward Andrew Wiggins is with the Golden State Warriors, Mississauga, Ontario swingman Dillon Brooks is with the Memphis Grizzlies, and Toronto center Dwight Powell is with the Dallas Mavericks. Meanwhile, point guard Jamal Murray of Kitchener, Ont., will be a starter with the Denver Nuggets if and when he returns from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
This season, Wiggins averaged 17.2 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 2.2 assists per game for the Warriors. He also had a .466 field goal percentage, .393 three-point percentage and .634 free throw percentage. In Saturday’s opener of the Warriors series against the Nuggets, Wiggins had 16 points and nine rebounds in a 123-107 victory at Golden State.
Brooks averaged 18.4 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game for the Grizzlies. He also has a .432 field goal percentage, .309 three-point percentage and .849 free throw percentage. The Grizzlies take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Powell has averaged 8.7 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists per game this season for Dallas. He also had a .671 field goal percentage, .351 three-point percentage, and .783 free throw percentage. The Mavericks take on the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
